23 Female Students Open Their Hearts and Wallets for John Dumelo’s Campaign
In preparation for the approaching parliamentary primary in the Ayawaso West Wuogon seat, a group of young women from three universities in Ghana have made a monetary donation to support John Dumelo’s campaign.
The donation, totaling GH1,850, was presented to Mr. Dumelo, a Ghanaian actor turned politician, to aid in his bid for the parliamentary seat.
Mr. Dumelo, who previously ran for the same seat but lost to Mrs. Alhassan in 2019, received a 48.3% share of the vote, with 37,478 votes cast in his favor, compared to Mrs. Alhassan’s 39,851 votes. Despite the defeat, Mr. Dumelo remained optimistic, as his party, the NDC, saw an increase in votes of 8.7% under his leadership, while the NPP experienced a decline of 5.9%.
The upcoming election is seen as Mr. Dumelo’s opportunity to reclaim the seat for the NDC for the second time in history, following Rebecca Akweley Adotey’s victory in 1996.
The recent donation from the 23 university ladies has given Mr. Dumelo a boost in his campaign, and he expressed his gratitude on Twitter, sharing pictures of the young women and thanking them for their support.
The group of donors consists of friends and students from three universities in Ghana, including Legon, Knutsford, and UPSA. Mr. Dumelo was touched by the generosity of the women and pledged to work hard to make Ayawaso West Wuogon great again.
