FILLA! How Nana Ama McBrown Managed To Shoot Over 100 Movies In A Year (+VIDEO)
Ghana’s one-time vibrant movie industry witnessed actors starring in multiple movies as a result of high demand, especially for local movies which featured Kumawood movie stars.
Nana Ama McBrown, one of the most sought-after actresses in Ghana, has revealed how she managed to feature in over 100 movies in a year.
In a recent interview on the ‘Stay By Plan’ podcast with Afi and Zuu, McBrown attributed her feat to expertise and a trick that is still in use. She revealed that Kumawood movie directors and producers don’t work with bulky scripts, which made it possible for her to feature in a high number of movies in a year.
“In Kumawood, it was about telling our own stories. If you are a little bit grown and understand life, the moment the director shows you something, you already know how to deliver it. Mostly in Kumawood, we have a very small script. You know how we do it,” she said.
The actress also explained that a reduced script allows actors to ‘freestyle’ and make a scene more natural, which leads to a remarkable outcome that viewers can relate to.
This is because the scenes are based on life experiences that the actors can easily relate to.
“It was less paper, the script was like 10 to 15 sheets. Every scene was just a synopsis…acting in the local dialect is like a freestyle. The aim is to understand the scene and get the scenario and because we understand each other, by the time I start, you know where am going,” she added.
Although the sale of local Ghanaian movies has declined in recent years, the industry continues to thrive.
McBrown, who is now busy with other commitments, said that she only shoots a few movies in a year, compared to when she was at the peak of her acting career.
McBrown is one of the most talented and versatile actresses in Ghana, having starred in numerous movies and TV series. Her acting skills and natural talent have earned her several awards and nominations, making her a role model for many young actors in Ghana and beyond.
Her success story is a testament to the fact that hard work, dedication, and expertise can lead to great achievements.
