Kennedy Agyapong Convinced Inaki Williams To Play for Ghana: Afena-Gyan’s Uncle
Ghana has received a boost to their national team with the news that Athletic Bilbao forward Inaki Williams will represent the Black Stars at international level.
The decision comes after a lengthy pursuit by the Ghana Football Association, aided by the persuasive efforts of Kennedy Agyapong, a presidential candidate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
According to Christian Abrefa Gyan, a relative of Ghanaian striker Felix Afena-Gyan, Agyapong’s close relationship with Williams’ mother played a crucial role in convincing the player to renounce his allegiance to Spain in favor of Ghana.
Gyan, who is the chairman of Agyapong’s campaign team, revealed that he had convinced Williams’ mother to allow him to play for Ghana.
Speaking to Pure FM, Gyan said, “I realize that the woman liked Kennedy Agyapong, so if the FA went through him, Inaki would agree to play for Black Stars. Lo and behold when Kennedy Agyapong stepped in, it worked.”
Born in Spain to Ghanaian parents, Williams made his full debut for the Spain national team in 2016. However, he declared his desire to represent Ghana internationally in July 2022, having previously turned down the offer to play for the country.
Williams’ decision to play for Ghana is a significant boost to the Black Stars, who have struggled to compete on the international stage in recent years. The 28-year-old forward is widely regarded as one of the most talented players of his generation and will bring a wealth of experience and skill to the team.
In a statement announcing his decision to play for Ghana, Williams said, “My parents have raised me with values based on humility, respect, and love.
They have taught me to embrace life. In that constant quest to continue growing and working upon the pursuit of evolving personally and professionally as an individual, I want to find my origins within myself and with Africa and Ghana which means so much to me and my family.”
Williams’ commitment to Ghana has been welcomed by football fans across the country, who are hoping that he can help the Black Stars to achieve success on the international stage. With Williams in the team, Ghana will undoubtedly be a force to be reckoned with at the upcoming 2022 World Cup.
