ASEM! Portable Remanded In Prison
Popular fuji musician, Habeeb Okikiola, who is better known by his stage name, Portable, has been remanded in prison by a Magistrate court in Ogun state for failing to perfect his bail conditions.
The court ordered that he be remanded at the Ilaro Correctional Centre until he is able to meet the requirements of his bail.
The singer was arraigned on five-count charges, including assault, stealing, and resisting arrest, by the Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, Frank Mba. He pleaded not guilty to the charges.
According to reports, Portable was granted bail in the sum of N300,000 and was required to provide two sureties with landed properties within the court’s vicinity. However, he was unable to meet these conditions, which led to his remand in prison.
Portable’s arrest and subsequent arraignment followed an altercation he had with police officers at his bar on Friday, March 31, 2023. One of the officers was allegedly injured during the altercation, which led to Portable’s arrest.
The case has generated mixed reactions from Portable’s fans and colleagues in the entertainment industry.
Some have expressed their support for the singer and called for his release, while others have criticized him for his alleged criminal activities and called for justice to be served.
The case against Portable is one of many criminal cases that have been filed against celebrities in recent times.
The Nigerian Police Force has stepped up its efforts to combat crime in the country, and celebrities are not exempted from the law.
