Rotational Nurses Fed Up with Empty Promises – Demand 8 Months of Pay!

The Rotational Nurses and Midwives Association (RNMA) in Ghana are calling on the government to pay them their allowances.

The Association consists of newly qualified health professionals who are mandated to do a mandatory one-year national service within the various hospitals across the country.

However, the RNMA has claimed that the government has not paid their allowances for the last eight months.

The Association’s National President, Jasper Dzorkah, and a concerned member of the association, Belinda Sarpong, revealed their plight to Nana Otu Darko on CTV’s Dwabre Mu.

The RNMA’s President explained that the National Service Secretariat (NSS) deployed the Rotational Nurses in June 2022 while the Rotational Midwives were deployed in July 2022. However, they have not received any allowances since their deployment.

“The situation has left us frustrated, as many affected persons struggle to commute to work and make ends meet,” he noted.

The Association has been in communication with the Ministry of Health, which has been telling them for the past three months that they are following up with the Ministry of Finance. However, there has been no positive outcome so far.

“What we want the government to do is from today, till 20th March 2023, the government should come out with a communiqué that will be word-binding on when payment will be made within the shortest possible time,” the RNMA President stated.

The Association has called on the government to come out with timelines for the payment of their allowances. They have given the government a deadline of 20th March 2023 to provide a word-binding communiqué on when payment will be made.

If nothing is heard from the government by the deadline given, the Association’s leadership will declare the next action to be taken on Saturday, 25 March 2023.

The RNMA is made up of about 10,957 health professionals who have been left frustrated and unable to make ends meet due to the government’s failure to pay their allowances.

It is hoped that the government will heed their call and come up with a timeline for the payment of their allowances.
